Your career’s successful start hinges, to a large degree, on your resume’s effectiveness. And that effectiveness rests not only on writing skills, but more importantly (and that’s hard for me to write as I truly value good writing and excellent grammar) on STRATEGY.
Did you know that a new grad can absolutely land a job that pays over $50,000? It depends on the studies, of course, but don’t deny yourself a good paycheque and settle for $30,000, if you should be starting at a higher salary.
A professional-grade resume takes into account such strategies as being aware of and addressing the reader’s “buying motivators,” using the correct key words and key phrases, knowing how to navigate Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), and learning how to prove you are a team player (or are organized, self-directed and have good time management) without stating the obvious.
It’s not a straightforward copy and paste from resume samples you found on the internet. That might land you the $30K job.
If you want to launch your career right, you owe it to yourself to learn about resume writing! Truth is, you’ll be writing more than one throughout your career, and knowing how to do it well will make it easier and of course, far more effective.
If you prefer to delegate to a professional, consider hiring me! I love what I do, have two awards for Best New Graduate resumes, and have many happily employed new grads as clients. It’s not a scary process at all. Working to your career success, Stephanie
